Hickory – Hickory Community Theatre is thrilled to announce that brothers Reed and Cleve Williams of Hickory will be together on stage again for the upcoming production of The Squirrels by Robert Askins. The pair were most recently seen together in Airness, where their chemistry and talent left audiences in awe. They each received an HCT Kay award for Outstanding Supporting Performer Kay awards for those roles. Now, they’re bringing their energy and connection to the Firemen’s Kitchen for this innovative and thought-provoking show.

The Squirrels, a dark comedy by Robert Askins, will run from October 18 through November 2, 2024, in the Firemen’s Kitchen at Hickory Community Theatre. This unique and intimate venue provides the perfect setting for this wildly imaginative exploration of class warfare, survival, and the animal instincts lurking within us all.

The Squirrels is a darkly comedic fable that delves into themes of survival, power, and the instinctive drives that divide us. Set in a woodland community, tensions rise between the well-stocked Gray Squirrels and the starving Fox Squirrels as winter approaches, sparking a fierce struggle over resources. Through biting humor and sharp social commentary, the play explores the primal forces of fear, greed, and inequality that threaten to unravel both squirrel society and human nature itself.

“We’re excited to see Reed and Cleve back on stage together,” said John Rambo, Managing Director of Hickory Community Theatre. “Their dynamic performances in Airness were unforgettable, and we know they will bring that same magic to The Squirrels. It’s always a special experience when local talent gets to shine like this.”

Performances will run from October 18 through November 2. Admission is $18 for adults and $12 for students and youth 18 and under. For tickets visit hickorytheatre.org or call 828-328-2283.

The Squirrels is rated R for adult language and mammalian violence, and contains nuts.

The Squirrels is produced by Diane’s Shelter. The 76th season at HCT is sponsored by A Cleaner World, Protection Products, Inc., Shurtape Technologies and LifeRootz. The Hickory Community Theatre is a funded affiliate of Arts Culture Catawba and receives sustaining support funding from the North Carolina Arts Council, a Division of the Department of Natural and Cultural Resources, a state agency.
