Now in theaters:

Ghostbusters: Afterlife (2021) Jason Reitman, taking the reins from his father, Ivan, who helmed the original and its sequel, directs the fourth iteration of the franchise. Hint: Cast members from the original film show up only during the last half hour for those curious.

King Richard (2021) Will Smith stars in this dramatic look at the making of Tennis legends, Venus and Serena Williams. (Also streaming on HBO Max).

New to Disc:

Arrow:

Phantom of the Mall: Eric’s Revenge (1989) Gaston Leroux’s novel gets a slasher film interpretation with this 80s horror entry. Extras include three cuts of the film, 60-page booklet, commentary, deleted scenes and trailers.

Film Movement:

Deep Blues (1990) Robert Mugge directs this acclaimed look at the blues music scene of the late 80s. Extras include commentary and behind the scenes featurette.

Criterion:

The company continues to make the 4K leap with several new UHD titles being issued this week. The titles are Citizen Kane (1941), Menace to Society (1993) and Uncut Gems (2019). Each title includes new and archived extras including new featurettes and interviews.

Kino:

Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1978) Phillip Kaufman’s lauded remake/sequel to the 50s sci fi classic gets a 4K upgrade in this new edition which includes a new commentary along with archival extras.

Other titles from the company this week include:

Night Gallery: The First Season (1969-71) which pulls together all of the original season one episodes plus the original pilot film. Extras include new commentaries.

La Cage aux Folles II (1980) The sequel to the 1978 French smash makes its Blu Ray debut.

Corinth Films:

Two films from acclaimed Russian filmmaker Sergei Eisenstein are being issued in a new two disc set by the label this week. They are October (1928) and Alexander Nevsky (1938). (DVD Only)

Paramount:

Planes, Trains and Automobiles (1987) The perennial holiday favorite is being issued in a new steelbook edition with archived extras.

The Ten Commandments (1956) is also being reissued in a commemorative 65th anniversary set which includes previously issued extras.

Warner Archive:

The Thin Man Goes Home (1941) The husband-and-wife detective team of Nick and Nora Charles find themselves solving a mystery in Nick’s hometown in the 5th entry of the beloved series. Extras include a classic short and cartoon along with the film’s trailer.

Lullaby of Broadway (1951) Doris Day not only sings but also dances in this musical from director David Butler which co-stars Gene Nelson. Includes the theatrical trailer.

Scream Factory:

Dracula: Dead and Loving It (1995) Mel Brooks’ final film (so far) as director gets a Blu Ray upgrade in this special edition which includes new special features.
