Hickory – The March 13 Poetry Hickory will feature a wide range of NC poets, all of whom had work selected for the most recent issue of “Kakalak,” an annual journal of poetry by North and South Carolina poets. At least a dozen poets from across the state will attend and share their work. The reading will begin at 7:00 PM at Taste Full Beans Coffeehouse in downtown Hickory, and is free and open to the public. Poets to be featured include the following:

Joyce Compton Brown, Professor Emeritus from Gardner Webb University, featured poet in the 2016 Mitchell College Doris Betts Literary Festival, and author of two chapbooks, “Bequest” and “Singing with Jarred Edges.”

Beverly C. Finney, of Hickory, retired educator and frequent contributor to The Art of Poetry at the Hickory Museum of Art and to the last 3 issues of “Kakalak.”

Anne Waters Green, of western NC, retired attorney and judge, and contributor to “Great Smokies Review,” and “Art Inspires Poetry: an Anthology of Ekphrastic Poems.”

Karen Luke Jackson, of Hendersonville, instructor of oral history retreats and in Duke University’s Advanced Certificate Program in Nonprofit Leadership and contributor to “moonShine Review,” “Broad River Review” and other journals.

Caroline Kane Kenna, of Huntersville, vice president of the Charlotte Writers’ Club and contributor to 3 anthologies, including “For the Love of Baseball.”

Jordan Makant, of Hickory, co-founder of the Hickory Playground, assistant editor of “Wild Goose Poetry Review,” and author of the chapbook, “Impossible Angles.”

Kathy Nelson, of Asheville, author of 2 chapbooks, “Cattails,” and “Whose Names Have Slipped Away.”

David Poston, of Gastonia, retired educator and author of 2 chapbooks and full-length collection of poetry called “Slow of Study.”

Jane Shlensky, of Bahama, NC, two-time Pushcart Prize nominee and author of the chapbook “Barefoot on Gravel.”

Lynne Santy Tanny, of Rutherfordton, choreographer for the Rutherford County Arts Council and author of three chapbooks, including “Where There Is No Night.”

Doug McHargue, of Hickory, frequent contributor to “Wild Goose Poetry Review” and author of the chapbook, “The Woman in Happy Dollar.”

Nancy H. Womack, retired Dean of Arts and Sciences at Isothermal Community College and contributor to numerous journals and anthologies.
