Hickory – Join Patrick Beaver Memorial Library genealogist Peggy Mainess on Thursday, March 21 at 6:30 pm for Genealogy Thursdays.
The March workshop will focus on using archival newspapers to further genealogical research. Newspapers can provide information that no other record can. As the social media of their time, newspapers documented the everyday lives of your ancestors and their communities. They have the potential of providing insight to a large number of ancestors and the contextual background that might lead to discovering other unexplored records. This program will provide information about the resources newspapers offer genealogy researchers from news articles, social columns, editorials and even classified ads. Participants will learn where to access digitized newspapers and how to preserve the information.
The Newspapers, an Underused Genealogical Research Tool workshop will take place in the Carolina Room on the second floor of the Patrick Beaver Memorial Library on March 21st at 6:30 pm. The workshop is free, but space is limited so registration is required. Register online at www.hickorync.gov/content/library-events or call 304-0500 extension 7235. Patrick Beaver is located at 375 Third Street NE.
