Newton, NC – To celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Moon Landing in July of 2019 and to provide the community with a unique star gazing experience, the Catawba County Library is hosting a traveling StarLab Planetarium to showcase the scale and spectacle of astronomy. The inflatable dome looks like a giant igloo, and high-resolution video lessons are projected onto a reflective 360° ceiling for maximum impact.
Once participants crawl through the entrance tunnel, they’ll embark on a fun, immersive galactic travel experience, flying through the universe to discover planets, stars, comets, and much more. The scientifically-accurate lessons are teacher reviewed for optimal student engagement, and they’re highly detailed and visually impressive.
The StarLab Planetarium will be set up for all ages, including adults. Visitors are invited to drop in and enjoy a 20-minute show at the following times and locations:
Thursday, July 25 from 2-7 pm at the Main Library in Newton
Saturday, July 27 from 11 am-1 pm at the Conover Branch Library
The StarLab Planetarium was provided in partnership with the State Library of North Carolina and the Department of Natural and Cultural Resources and is aimed at bringing museum-quality space exploration and learning opportunities to small and rural communities.
