They’ve literally saved the best for last (if we’re to believe this really is the last) with the third helping of the Bad Boys franchise, Bad Boys for Life. Coming seventeen years after the last installment, the much delayed film proves to be the most entertaining of the three, providing ample doses of both action and laughs, in equal measure.
It’s an understatement to say that this is a surprise considering how loud and formulaic the first two entries were. Could it be the decision of director, Michael Bay, who helmed the first two Bad Boys films, not to return actually did the film a huge favor? The answer seems to be yes. First time feature directors, Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah, step into Bay’s shoes quite capably and deliver fans exactly what they would want from another Bad Boys entry.
Will Smith and Martin Lawrence In Bad Boys for Life
Plotwise, it’s basically bad guy Mexicans coming to town with a plan of offing anyone who stands in the way of their dastardly plans. The plot complications arise when the former girlfriend of Bad Boy, Mike (Martin Lawrence) turns out to be the ring leader of the gang. After a close brush with death, Mike is urged by Marcus (Will Smith) to hang it up. Of course, that won’t happen and eventually they find themselves back in the saddle again, so to speak. Obviously, it isn’t the plot that makes the movie so much fun. That would be the palpable chemistry of stars Smith and Lawrence who are clearly having a good time. The audience will too.
