Now in Theaters:
Spiderman: Across the Spider Verse – The sequel to the 2018 animated box office winner, Spiderman: Into the Spider Verse – continues the multiverse concept introduced in that previous film. Its 140-minute length is sure to make it one of the shortest franchise films to make it into theaters this calendar year.
The Boogeyman – The Stephen King short story from his Night Shift collection, in which a super entity that preys on the emotionally vulnerable terrorizes a family dealing with loss, gets the big screen treatment in this adaptation.
New to Disc:
Criterion:
The Rules of the Game (1939) A weekend at a country chateau is the breeding ground for stunning revelations among a vacationing family in Jean Renoir’s classic now getting a 4K upgrade. Previous extras are being retained.
Arrow:
Warriors 2 (1978) Two martial arts students must put their skills to the test in order to defend their town from an evil businessman in this Asian film getting a fresh Blu-Ray restoration and some great bonus materials in this new release.
Paramount:
The label is reissuing all of the Indiana Jones films on 4K on individual discs that are basically just the films but without most of the extras found in the box set from two years back. The label has also issued a handsome Transformers 4K edition box set that includes the first six films in the series along with a decal and previous extras. The latter is a limited edition that is likely to sell out quickly so fans should take note.
Also being issued in 4K is the third film in the Jack Ryan series, A Clear and Present Danger. The release retains extras found in previous editions.
Scream Factory:
The Strangler (1964) Victor Buono is a doll collector who murders nurses in this thriller getting its first Blu-Ray release along with a few extras.
Private Parts (1972) The film debut of cult director and actor, Paul Bartel, comes to Blu-Ray for the first time as well with some new bonus material.
Kino:
Clint Eastwood’s spaghetti western trilogy, A Fistful of Dollars, For a Few Dollars More and The Good, The Bad and The Ugly are getting a Blu-Ray reissue from the label which retains the previous extras.
Universal:
Renfield (2023) The recent reimagining of the legend of Dracula, which stars Nicholas Cage as the immortal count, makes its way to Blu-Ray this week along with a few featurettes.
The label is also issuing all of the films in The Mummy series for the first time in 4K in a new set that bundles them all together. Previous bonus material has been retained.
If that’s not enough, there’s also a new 7-disc Blu-Ray collection featuring all of the Child’s Play films in one set.
