Alexander County, NC – The public is invited to the grand opening and ribbon cutting at Wittenburg Access Area on Friday, May 24 at 2:00 p.m. to showcase the new swim beach and associated amenities. The ceremony will feature remarks from Alexander County Commissioners and Duke Energy representatives.
The revamped Wittenburg Access Area, located at 175 Wildlife Access Road in Bethlehem, now features a swim beach, outdoor showers, changing area, restrooms, concessions, park office, picnic shelters, fishing pier, boat access, nature trail, and more.
Josh Lail, Chairman of the Alexander County Board of Commissioners, said he is pleased with the partnership between Alexander County Government and Duke Energy to enhance recreational opportunities.
“The new features at Wittenburg Access Area will be a popular attraction for our citizens and visitors,” said Chairman Lail. “The swim beach will provide a place for families and friends to enjoy time together at the lake. Working together, we’re improving the quality of life here in Alexander County.”
The new swim beach will officially open on Tuesday, May 21. The beach area will be open six days a week from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. (closed on Wednesdays for maintenance) from Memorial Day to Labor Day each year. A park attendant will be on duty with concessions available, including drinks, snacks, prewrapped sandwiches, and more. No lifeguard will be on duty.
During the first week of operation, the swim beach will have a “soft opening” with a limit of 50 persons at a time.
The Wittenburg Access Area is owned by Duke Energy. In 2019, Alexander County leased the property for 40 years.
