Warfare – A platoon of American Navy SEALS find themselves in a predicament when an insurgent mission in Iraq goes off the rails in this film co-directed by Alex Garland,  the auteur behind one of last year’s worst films, Civil War.

NEW TO DISC:

Lionsgate:

King of New York (1990) Christopher Walken is a recently released from prison gangster, bent on getting revenge on drug lords, in Abel Ferrara’s cult classic, getting a 4K release for the first time.  Previously issued extras are included.

Basic Instinct (1992) The film that made Sharon Stone a household name, the crime thriller which also stars Michael Douglas as a detective unraveling the case of an ice pick killer, gets its first 4K UHD release from the label as well this week.  Many extras that were unavailable since the film’s release on laser disc have been included.

Warner Brothers:

The Informant (2009)  Steven Soderbergh directed this true-life story about the exploits of a high-ranking whistleblower which stars Matt Damon.  The first ever 4K release of the film includes no new extras but retains previously issued ones.

The Good German (2006) is another of Soderbergh’s efforts coming to the 4K format, also a true story involving the efforts of a journalist (George Clooney) attempting to solve the case of a dead body washed up on shore in WWII Germany. Archival extras are also retained on this one.

Kino:

Two fondly remembered films starring John “The Duke” Wayne are getting a 4K makeover this week. They are the lighthearted action-adventure directed by John Ford, Donovan’s Reef (1963) and the WWII actioner, Sands of Iwo Jima (1949), directed by Allan Dwan. The former includes two new commentary tracks and a John Ford short film and the latter includes a new commentary and a making of featurette.

Heavens Above (1963) Peter Sellers is an idealistic priest with some revolutionary ideas, who runs afoul of his superiors, in this comedy coming to Blu-Ray. The film also stars the great Brock Peters. A new commentary track is included.

Fun City Editions:

Baby, It’s You (1983) Rosanna Arquette, Vincent Spano and co-stars Tracy Pollan, Matthew Modine and Robert Downey Jr. star in this memorable comedy-drama about first love set in the 1960s from filmmaker John Sayles. The first ever limited edition (3,000 units) Blu-Ray release of the film includes a new commentary and interviews.

Criterion:

Chungking Express (1994) The film that put Hong Kong director, Wong Kar Wai, on the map-the tale of two lovesick cops fixated on an attractive waitress-makes the leap to the 4K UHD format this week as well in a new edition from the label. Bonus materials include no new extras but carry over the bonus materials from the Blu-Ray release.

Sony:

Heart Eyes (2025) The recent Valentine’s themed horror entry makes its disc debut this week as well with a few new bonus features.
