Newton, NC – The Catawba County Branch NAACP invites the community to attend its August Monthly Meeting and Community Candidate Town Hall, providing residents with an opportunity to meet and hear from candidates seeking local and state office in the 2026 election. This month’s meeting continues the branch’s commitment to civic engagement, voter education, and informed participation in the process.
The August meeting of the Catawba County Branch NAACP will be on Sunday, August 9, 2026, at 4:00pm Mt. Olin AME Zion Church, 2583 Smyre Farm Rd, Newton, NC.
Invited candidates include:
Park Inglefield – NC House District 96
Greg Cranford – NC Senate District 45
Spider Thompson – NC House District 89
Aubrey Gregory – Catawba County Commissioner
Phyllis Michaux – Catawba County Commissioner
Jesse Alden – Catawba County Commissioner
Kevin Hawley – Catawba County Board of Education
Khristy Womack Smith – Catawba County Board of Education
Each candidate will have an opportunity to introduce themselves, discuss the issues important to our community, and answer questions from attendees. “The NAACP believes an informed electorate strengthens our communities,” said branch leadership. “This event is an opportunity for voters to hear directly from candidates, ask questions, and learn more about those seeking to serve our county and state.”

The NAACP is the nation’s oldest and largest civil rights organization. The Catawba County Branch meets on the second Sunday of each month.
