Hickory – Marking its 49th season, the Hickory Choral Society presents a musical reflection on the events of the century’s first 25 years that have tested our communities in profound ways. Through every season of uncertainty and change, the human spirit has continued to persevere. We have comforted one another, rebuilt together, found hope in unexpected places—and still we sing. Throughout our 49th season, the Hickory Choral Society will celebrate the resilience that has carried us forward and explores music’s unique ability to heal, unite, and inspire.
Our season begins with a moving concert of remembrance and renewal. The Fall concert will be held on Sunday, October 18th at First Baptist Church in Hickory. The concert’s first half includes selections commemorating the twenty-fifth anniversary of September 11, including a stirring rendition of “God Bless America”. The second half of the concert features a collaboration with Asheville-based bluegrass band Aubrey Eisenman and the Clydes, a set inspired by ongoing recovery after Hurricane Helene.
Our Christmas concerts at Corinth Reformed Church include familiar carols, HCS seasonal traditions, and original poetry by four local writers, offering an evening of reflection on the enduring promise of light overcoming darkness. In the spring, Morten Lauridsen’s luminous Lux Aeterna, one of the defining choral works of the past three decades, will remind us that light is a symbol of hope, comfort, guidance, and divine presence. We conclude the season in May with our outdoor Singing on the Square concerts in Hickory and Morganton, this year titled Here Comes the Sun, featuring popular favorites where we sing of brighter days ahead.
As the Hickory Choral Society enters Season 49, we remain committed to enriching our community through music that uplifts and inspires. We thank you for your ongoing support and hope you’ll join us as we celebrate the transformative power of voices united in song. All concerts are free to attend, but seasonal memberships are available providing reserved seating and preferred parking.
