Hickory – Bright Star Theatre, a national professional touring theater company, is bringing Freedom Songs: The Music of Black History to Ridgeview Library on Monday, February 12, 2017 at 5:00pm. This performance is free and open to everyone.
An entertaining musical review of Black History. From the work songs of slavery (“Hoe Emma Hoe”) and the hymns of the Underground Railroad (“Follow the Drinking Gourd”) to the blues of Beale Street and the anthems of the Civil Rights Movement, music has always been an integral part of our nation’s past. This production tells the stories behind these famous and forgotten hymns, work songs and musical styles while sampling songs that spread across continents, genres and centuries.
This program is perfect for family members of all ages.
