Boone, NC – The Chapel of Rest Preservation Society will present a concert of old time music by the Burnett Sisters of Boone on Sunday afternoon, April 30, at 4 o’clock. The Chapel features perfect acoustics, and the public is cordially invited.
Kathleen, Anissa, Annelli and Sophia are a family band who perform old time fiddle tunes, bluegrass standards, and a capella gospel with strong instrumentals and breathtaking vocal harmonies, revealing a bona fide love of the traditional songs they play. The sisters will be joined in concert by Justin Alexander on banjo, and Colin Ray on guitar, who also shares lead vocals.
The Billboard – charting Band navigates their diverse source material effortlessly, diving into songs with an attention to detail and an appreciation for nuance that lends an authenticity rarely matched in today’s traditional music.
The four sisters received a foundational education in traditional music first from their father and then through the Junior Appalachian Musicians (JAM) Program in Boone, with influences from Doc Watson, Patsy Cline, Johnny Cash, June Carter and John Prine. Later they taught other young musicians in the JAM Program, and began playing larger venues and festivals throughout the Southeast and beyond .
They have now made a name for themselves on the competition circuit, netting first place awards for singing, fiddling, dancing and more at competitions ranging from Union Grove to Galax and other festivals farther afield.
The Chapel of Rest is located nine miles north of Lenoir at #1964 Highway 268, adjacent to the campus of the historic Patterson School. A $20 admission fee includes a reception with the artists to follow the concert.
