Hickory – April is North Carolina Science Festival Month, a statewide celebration spotlighting the power of science through hands-on experiences, community events, and innovative learning opportunities. As part of this month-long initiative, Catawba Science Center (CSC) invites the community to explore, experiment, and discover through two dynamic events this April.
On April 11, CSC presents Science Matters: Matter Mania, an interactive dive into the building blocks of our world.
Guests will experience solids, liquids, and gases in action through hands-on experiments, including fascinating non-Newtonian fluids, as well as engaging planetarium shows. The evening also features a special presentation on dark matter by Appalachian State University’s Mx. Elise O. Weaver, who will shed light on one of the universe’s greatest mysteries.
On April 18, CSC hosts STEM Trek, a free, family-friendly event connecting guests with real-world science, technology, engineering, and math. Through hands-on activities and interactive exhibits led by local businesses and organizations, STEM Trek offers a unique opportunity to explore STEM careers, build skills, and see innovation in action across our region.
Together, these events highlight CSC’s mission to change lives and inspire learning through science and wonder—bringing the excitement of discovery to the heart of our community.
