Hickory – Community members are invited to the library to meet a local author at noon on the first Friday of every month. Local authors will share information about themselves, explain their path to getting their work(s) published, read aloud excerpts, and answer questions. You are welcome to bring your own lunch to eat during this program.
On Friday, February 1, at 12pm, we will meet author and Newton resident Rebecca Alghrary-McRee. Becky graduated from Newton-Conover High School in 1961 and then earned an English and Communications-Mass Media degree from the University of North Carolina-Charlotte.
Becky has worked on the staffs of four newspapers and authored seven books. The topics of her writings range from experiences of others in surrounding areas to her experiences in the Middle East during the 1970s and 1980s.
Becky most recently published a book in 2018 entitled Southern Potpourri. It is a collection of stories featuring unique characters, the NC Mountains, special adventures, and stories of life-changing events faced by the author during the last century.
This First Friday with a Local Author program is free and open to the public.
The February program will take place in the upstairs conference room. Registration is not required.
