Hickory – Community members are invited to the library to meet a local author every month at noon on the first Friday of each month. Local authors will share information about themselves, explain their path to getting their work(s) published, read aloud excerpts, and answer questions.  You are welcome to bring your own lunch to eat during this program.

On Friday, January 4, 2019 at 12pm, we will meet local poet Scott Owens.  Owens holds degrees from Ohio University, UNC Charlotte, and UNC Greensboro.  He is Professor of Poetry at Lenoir Rhyne University, former editor of Wild Goose Poetry Review and Southern Poetry Review. He owns and operates Taste Full Beans Coffeehouse and Gallery and coordinates Poetry Hickory.

He is the author of 14 collections of poetry and recipient of awards from the Academy of American Poets, the Pushcart Prize Anthology, the Next Generation/Indie Lit Awards, the NC Writers Network, the NC Poetry Society, and the Poetry Society of SC.

He has been featured on The Writer’s Almanac 6 times, and his articles about poetry have been featured in Poet’s Market each of the past 5 years.

This First Friday with a Local Author program is free and open to the public.  The January program will take place in the upstairs conference room. Registration is not required. For more information, please call 304-0500 ext. 7235.
