Vale, NC –  Hart Square Foundation will launch a new afterschool program this fall as an affiliate chapter of the Junior Appalachian Musicians. This program will cater to children in the fourth through eighth grade and will provide instruction on instruments commonly used in playing traditional Appalachian music. To preserve oral traditions as much as possible, instructors will be encouraged to teach students to learn music by ear.

Hart Square has chosen to launch this program with two instruments, guitar and banjo, and will expand to additional instruments as interest in the program grows. An open house will take place on September 9th at 4pm. All interested students and their parents are encouraged to attend to learn more about the program and meet the professional musicians that will serve as instructors. The 14-week semester will commence on September 23, 2025 and end on January 6, 2026.

Executive Director, Rebecca Hart, says “It has been a dream of mine to start an afterschool program at Hart Square. As a musician myself, it seems fitting to begin with music, and the Junior Appalachian Musicians program aligns so well with our mission to preserve cultural heritage for future generations. We are excited about this new partnership.”
