Hickory – From Wilmington to Cherokee, North Carolina is a treasure trove of ghostly lore. Come to Patrick Beaver Memorial Library on Tuesday, October 30 at 6pm to hear Peggy Mainess retell some of North Carolina’s most colorful spooky tales. These stories involve a talking corpse, battles between dead men, playful specters, a return from the dead, Cherokee warriors and a ghost train. Closer to home, Broughton Hospital in Morganton is the scene of many things that go bump in the night. After hearing these tales, you may be a little apprehensive at midnight on dark windy nights.
Peggy Mainess is a Catawba County native who has worked in the North Carolina History & Genealogy Room for 12 years. Before that, Peggy was an administrator for Hickory Public Schools for 27 years. It is no wonder that Miss Peggy knows where all of the bodies are buried.
The Haunted Tales of North Carolina for Adults program on Tuesday, October 30 at 6pm is free and open to the public. No registration is required. For more information, please call 828-304-0500 ext. 7235. Patrick Beaver Memorial Library is located at 375 3rd Street NE on the SALT Block.
