Hickory – The hit show Into the Woods, currently on stage at the Hickory Community Theatre, comes to an end this weekend. The final three performances are Thursday through Saturday, June 18, 19 and 20, at 7:30pm.

With a book by James Lapine and a score by Stephen Sondheim, Into the Woods combines the fairy-tale stories of Cinderella, Jack and the Beanstalk, Rapunzel, and more, ultimately going beyond “ever after” to explore what happens next. Boasting a score that includes such favorites as “Children Will Listen,” “No One Is Alone,” and its title song, the musical has become one of Sondheim’s most beloved and frequently performed works both on professional stages and at schools and community theatres worldwide.

Into the Woods is produced in association with Catawba Valley Health System. Hickory Community Theatre is a funded affiliate of Arts Culture Catawba and receives sustaining support from the North Carolina Arts Council, a division of the Department of Natural and Cultural Resources. Season 77 community support is provided by the City of Hickory, A Cleaner World, Shurtape Technologies, Acuña & Acuña Dentistry, and BelleAge.

 

OutThere Theatre Co. Announces the Cast for Side Show

The Hickory Community Theatre is proud to once again be collaborating with OutThere Theatre Co. to bring to the stage the cult musical Side Show. Performances begin on July 10 in the Jeffers Theatre.

Side Show is a sung-through musical based on the true story of conjoined twins Daisy and Violet Hilton. It follows their journey from an exploitative carnival sideshow to mainstream vaudeville and Hollywood, exploring themes of fame, physical connection, and the universal need for love and acceptance.

For this production, the Hilton twins are played by Ash Cheers-Klutz (Daisy) and Ava Miller (Violet). In the roles of their love interests, Eric Martinez plays Terry and Peter Liuzzo plays Buddy.  Bradshaw Call plays the sleazy Boss of the Side Show, and Dontavious Harris plays Jake, the side show foreman who is secretly in love with Violet.

The Side Show performers are Jazmin Fox as the Fortune Teller, Jared Wachsmuth as the Reptile Man, Jupiter Slade as the Bearded Lady, Rachael Morris as Dolly Dimples, Darnell Ducre-Harden as the Fakir, Avery Reinken as the Snake Lady, Jude Tremblay as the Geek and Kamryn Pasco as the 6th Exhibit.

The Harem Girls are played by Riley Popko, Taylor Sadlowski, and Jessica Stevens. Matthew Howard, Josh Hughes, Blaine Kelly, and Matt Morris play the Roustabouts. Melinda Cassell and Breanna Wallace round out the ensemble.

This landmark show runs for only five performances, July 10-18, Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30pm and Sunday, July 12 at 2:30pm. Tickets are $20 for adults and $15 for youth and students. This production is suitable for ages 13 and up.
