Hickory – On Sunday, October 8th fire departments across the county will be celebrating Fire Prevention Week activities. To kick off the national event, Catawba County Firefighters will be holding a special display at Home Depot located on Highway 70 beginning at 1:00 p.m. and continuing until 3:00 p.m.
As a special treat, staff from Home Depot will set up a special Kid’s Club event, where children can make their own emergency vehicle. Firefighters and fire trucks from across Catawba County including Catawba, Conover, Claremont, Cooksville, Hickory, Propst Crossroads, and Long View will be participating in the event. The Catawba County Emergency Services Fire/Rescue Division will have a display. Pluggie the talking fire hydrant will also be making appearances and Safe Kids Catawba County will have safety information available. Another special event will be hosted by Catawba Fire Department and includes a child’s sized obstacle course to learn more about the job of a firefighter.
During this free event, firefighters will be available to answer questions and to pass out free literature and treats for children. Stop by, sit in a fire truck, enjoy the free fun, and help firefighters celebrate national Fire Prevention Week.
