Hickory – Poet, Scott Owens, and photographer, Clayton Joe Young, will be the featured presenters at the December 12 Poetry Hickory to be held at Taste Full Beans Coffeehouse in downtown Hickory starting at 6:15 PM.
Owens and Young have collaborated on the publication of “’Round Here: Images From and Near Catawba County.”
Catawba County historian and author, Richard Eller, says of the book, “Not the dry history of when and where, these poems and images do something miraculous; they connect us to the past in a sensory way.”
Retired City of Hickory law enforcement officer, Steve Hunt, adds that, “Overpowering in its beauty, this collection of poetry and striking images captures the soul of who we are and where we come from.”
Owens is the author of 20 collections of poetry and recipient of awards from the Academy of American Poets, the Pushcart Prize Anthology, the NC Writers Network, and the NC Poetry Society, among others. He is a professor at Lenoir Rhyne University.
Young is an award-winning photographer and author of 11 books. His work has been exhibited throughout the U.S. in solo and juried exhibitions. He is the Director and Senior Professor for the Photographic Technology Program at CVCC.
Copies of the book as well as prints of the photography will be available for purchase and signing.
The featured presentation will be followed by an Open Mic. For more information or to register for the Open Mic, contact Owens at 828-234-4266 or at [email protected].
