Now in Theaters:
The Brutalist (***) Adrien Brody turns in a terrific performance as a post WWII refugee, attempting to forge a path as an architect, whose life is changed when he crosses paths with a mysterious and wealthy client (Guy Pierce). The film is worth noting as being the first to be shot in the VistaVision format since 1961 and, as such, is beautiful to behold from a technical standpoint. It’s the sort of film that is likely to be more appreciated on the largest screen possible.
New to Disc:
Kino Lorber:
Internal Affairs (1990) Andy Garcia and Richard Gere are cops at odds with each other when one discovers the other is operating under questionable moral codes. The first ever 4K release of the film includes a new commentary.
Two cult sci-fi films from director Steve De Jarnatt are getting the remastered Blu Ray treatment this week from the label as well. The titles are Cherry 2000 (1987), which stars Melanie Griffith and Miracle Mile (1988), which stars Anthony Edwards. Both contain new bonus materials.
The Beast Within (1982) A teen finds his life upended when he suddenly finds himself transforming into a flesh eating beast. The film features one of the best all time transformation scenes in horror history in this reviewer’s opinion. Extras include commentaries.
