Moana – Disney’s latest attempt to turn a wildly successful animated property into a live action event has now arrived in theaters. The Rock returns in this film version which will likely satisfy the original’s fans. Others may choose to view it as a cynical cash grab or not, with time ultimately telling the tale.
Coroner to the Stars (*** ½) is an illuminating, and ultimately moving look at the life and times of Dr. Thomas Noguchi, the former LA County Chief Medical Examiner. The film features the now 99-year-old Noguchi recounting some of his more noteworthy cases – Marilyn Monroe, William Holden, Sharon Tate, Natalie Wood, John Belushi-while simultaneously unspooling the story of his life. Highly recommended.
NEW TO DISC:
Universal:
The incredibly successful low budget horror effort from twenty-something YouTube sensation Curry Barker, Obsession (2026), gets its physical release this week in both 4K and Blu Ray editions. Some bonus materials are also included.
The label is also issuing in steelbook format a new 40th anniversary 4K of Howard the Duck (1986) with the same bonus features as before.
Additionally, they are issuing The Office: The Complete Series (2005-2013) in Blu Ray format and the 1955 noir, Foxfire, starring Jane Russell, in Blu Ray as well.
Lionsgate:
Another hugely successful theatrical film from earlier in the year, the biopic, Michael (2026), also gets a 4K and Blu Ray release this week with a few new bonus materials.
Paramount:
The label is reissuing in steelbook 4K format, Crawl (2019) and The Untouchables (1987).
Arrow:
The Charles Bronson starring vehicle, Red Sun (1972), revolving around a quest for a missing sword in the wild west, comes to the 4K format with a slew of bonus materials along with the resplendent new transfer.
Warner Archive:
Last Summer (1969) Frank Perry’s disturbing tale, adapted from the Evan Hunter novel, of what transpires between four teenagers during a long, hot summer comes to the Blu Ray format for the first time ever. Last seen on physical media in a 1995 VHS, this new restoration also contains a copious amount of bonus materials that includes a commentary and Q and A with the cast members.
Criterion:
Martin Scorsese’s Alice Doesn’t Live Here Anymore (1974), later adapted as the TV series, Alice, comes to both 4K and Blu Ray formats this week.
Other releases from the label are a new 4K of Hud (1963), featuring one of Paul Newman’s more revered performances as a drifter sorting out his life, and Neil Jordan’s The Crying Game (1992). Bonus materials abound on the releases.
Troma:
The label has a few new Blu Ray releases this week as well in remastered editions. These include Rise of the Super Tromettes (2025) and Sugar Cookies (1973).
Warner Brothers:
Lee Cronin’s The Mummy (2026) The latest screen version of the oft refilmed tale makes its 4K and Blu Ray debut this week with a few new bonus materials.
