Newton, NC – Newton is planning for an improvement project along West A Street that will create a beautiful new gateway into the city.
The West A Street Pedestrian and Bicycle Improvement Project will run between Northwest Boulevard and Downtown Newton. Upgrades to West A Street will include sidewalks and bike lanes on both sides of the street, water and sewer line rehabilitation, and underground electrical updates.
Newton has secured $2.6 million in federal grants and $250,000 in state grants to fund the project, which is currently in its engineering phase.
“This project will be a wonderful complement to the revitalization currently underway in Downtown Newton,” Mayor Anne P. Stedman said. “I look forward to seeing these projects continue to build Newton’s brilliant legacy into an even brighter future.”
A public information open house will be held from 4-6 p.m. Thursday, March 21, in the Council Chambers at Newton City Hall, 401 North Main Ave.
The open house will be a drop-in format to allow anyone interested to come at their convenience. Design consultants and city staff will be present to discuss maps, design details, and construction timelines. The open house will be a great opportunity for merchants and property owners along West A Street, as well as members of the public, to learn more about the project.
