New to Streaming:

Scouts Honor: The Secret Files of the Boy Scouts of America (** 1/2) Brian Knappenberger directs this look at the cover up of child molestation charges that have been leveled against the organization. The subject matter is interesting but the execution is a little too formulaic. Still worth a look.

 

New to Disc:

Warner Bros:

Batman Mask of the Phantasm (1993) has been issued in a new 4K edition for the first time ever and includes the bonus materials included on earlier editions.

Criterion:

Walkabout (1971) Nicholas Roeg’s beautifully filmed tale of a young girl and her brother lost in the Australian wilderness, makes its way to 4K for the first time and retains the previously issued bonus materials.

MVD Visual:

The horror favorite, Ghoulies (1985) has been released on 4K this week in a new edition with copious extras. It is also been released in a Blu-ray edition along with the sequel, Ghoulies 2 (1988).

Arrow Video:

Last House on the Left (2009) A couple exact revenge on the attackers who killed their daughter in this remake of Wes Craven’s 1971 horror classic, now getting its first 4K release. Extras include two cuts of the film, new interviews and an illustrated booklet.

The Prodigal Son (1981) Leung Tsan directed this tale of a Kung Fu student seeking guidance after he learns his opponents were paid to lose. Extras include featurettes, interviews and commentary.

Shout Factory:

Irwin Allen: Master of Disaster Collection (1976-83) is a new multi disc set collecting numerous films appearing on Blu Ray for the first time. Films included are Flood, Fire, Beyond The Poseidon Adventure, Hanging by a Thread, When Time Ran Out, Cave In and The Night the Bridge Fell Down. Extras include still galleries, trailers and multiple cuts of two of the films.

The Pack (1977) Mad dogs are on the loose in this cult horror effort from director Robert Clouse, now getting its first ever Blu-ray edition. Joe Don Baker stars. Extras include interviews and commentary.

Kino:

After Dark My Sweet (1990) Jason Patric is drawn into a kidnapping scheme by Rachel Ward in this Neo Noir directed by James Foley. Extras include commentary and interviews.

Joyce Carol Oates: A body in the Service of Mind (2022) Stig Bjorkman directs this documentary portrait of the prolific author of more than 100 books, providing insight into her life process and events that shaped her writings.

The Beast (1988) Jason Patrick stars in this battle of wills between a tank commander and a tank driver in war-torn Afghanistan. extras include a trailer.

Paramount:

Kiss the Girls (1997) Ashley Judd and Morgan Freeman star in this adaptation of the James Patterson suspense bestseller, now getting its first ever 4K upgrade with a few new extras.
