Hickory – Redhawk Publications is proud to announce the release of “Elemental,” the latest poetry collection from acclaimed North Carolina poet Scott Owens. This is Owens’ 24th published collection and his ninth title with Redhawk Publications, further solidifying his status as one of the region’s most prolific poetic voices.

“Elemental” explores the essential connections between humanity and the natural world. From hiking trails and changing seasons to animal companionship and quiet garden moments, Owens captures how nature frames and enriches our daily lives. “Aside from family, my two greatest loves in life are poetry and being outside,” says Owens. “Writing these poems allowed me to combine two of those continued fascinations.”

A professor of poetry at Lenoir-Rhyne University and longtime host of the Poetry Hickory reading series, Owens also owns and operates Taste Full Beans Coffeehouse in downtown Hickory. His diverse contributions to the literary and local arts communities make him a uniquely grounded yet far-reaching voice in contemporary poetry.

Whether reflecting on the tranquility of a forest walk or the fleeting brilliance of a butterfly’s flight, “Elemental” encourages readers to slow down and rediscover wonder in the world around them. “My hope,” Owens shares, “is to continue to see as much of the world as I can, and perhaps these poems will help readers see more and be encouraged to explore more as well.”

In recent years, Owens has also authored eventually, “a haiku collection;” “An Augury of Birds,” a photographic collaboration with Clayton Joe Young; “All In,” a poetic novel written with Pris Campbell; and “Holding Holden,” a children’s poem illustrated by Fiely Matias. Yet “Elemental” stands out for its celebration of the outdoors and its ability to connect, heal, and inspire.

This collection is a must-read for poetry lovers, nature enthusiasts, hikers, gardeners, animal lovers, and anyone seeking to reconnect with the elements of life.
