The Caldwell Men’s Chorus will present its Spring Concert on Saturday evening, April 27th at 7:30 PM at Lenoir Presbyterian Church, 1002 Kirkwood Avenue NW Lenoir.  The concert is free and open to the public.  All you need to do is show up at the door, but it is suggested that you arrive early, since the church fills up quickly.

This concert is billed as a “coral” concert, as it is a themed concert of sea shanties and pirate music.  Director Keith Smith says, “This music and all of the accompanying pageantry has been somewhat of a challenge to our singers, but they have met and exceeded those expectations.  This is good, hearty, rousing music which is a lot of fun for us to sing and will be fun for our audience as well!”

One of the highlights of the evening promises to be a medley of Gilbert and Sullivan tunes from the famous opera, “The Pirates of Penzance.”  The men will be joined by a chorus of women for this.

The Caldwell Senior Men’s Chorus competed in the North Carolina Senior Games in the Silver Follies Arts Competition for the Unifour area (Alexander, Burke, Caldwell and Catawba Counties) on Thursday, April 4th and won Best in Show.  The group will compete in the State Finals in Cary, NC on Friday, September 20th.  The group last competed in 2016 and won Best in State that year.

The Caldwell Men’s Chorus has been performing for some 29 years and is made up of 22 singers for this concert, ranging in age from 25 to 84.  Director Smith says, “The two common denominators to sing in this group are (1) you must be able to hear and sing close harmony, and (2) you must have a true love of singing.  All of our men fit this bill.  Many of our members are current or retired school music teachers and/or church music directors.”  The group does not charge admission but gratefully accepts any love offering.
