Happy Valley, NC – The Caldwell Men’s Chorus will present a free concert of gospels and spirituals at the Chapel of Rest in Happy Valley on Sunday afternoon, October 26 at 4pm.

The Chorus is based in Lenoir and currently includes 27 singers ranging in age from 25 to 85.

They are directed by Keith Smith and accompanied by Sherry January. This marks the 30th year anniversary of the group. The musical selection is varied and eclectic,

including both sacred and secular hymns, spirituals, ballads, folk songs, Irish music, show tunes, patriotic songs, barbershop and more.

Director Kieth Smith calls the Chorus “the best kept musical secret in Western North Carolina!”

Current membership includes First Tenors Jonathan Duncan, Doug McCowan and Glen Neal; and Second Tenors Bradley Davis, Sherrill German, Reggy Greene, Bill Hall, Michael Haney, Barry Jarvis, Duane Mozingo and Ken Thwing. Baritones include Kyle Canerday, William Cogdell, Robert Mashall, Duncan Meeks, Allen Norrod, Doug Saunders and Norm Sherwood; and Bass singers are Dennis Bell, David Bigelow, Tim Boone, Lucas Duncan, Carroll Hoyle, Trev Moore, Hight Reid, Tony Ruppard and Rankin Whittington.

The Chapel of Rest is located nine miles north of Lenoir at 1964 Highway 268, adjacent to the historic Patterson School campus and the Western NC Sculpture Center.  The Chapel is open daily from 10 to 5, and will present a Christmas Eve service on December 24 at 4pm.
