Hickory – Hickory Community Theatre is thrilled to welcome Jazmin Fox to the Pamela Livingstone stage in its upcoming production of Hairspray. Fox takes on the role of the bold and beloved Motormouth Maybelle, a powerhouse character known for her big voice and bigger heart.

Set in 1960s Baltimore, Hairspray follows teenager Tracy Turnblad, whose big hair and even bigger dreams shake up a segregated television dance show. With catchy tunes, heartfelt humor, and dazzling dance numbers, this Tony Award–winning musical delivers an irresistible message: you really can change the world if you stand up for what’s right and aren’t afraid to dance to your own beat.

Fox, a microbiologist from Hudson and native of Lenoir, says she has always loved the movie and jumped at the chance to join the musical. “I get to be loud,” she says of playing Maybelle, a role that lets her channel energy, joy, and soul into every performance. She is no stranger to the HCT stage, having previously appeared in Anastasia, MEMPHIS, and The Color Purple. Audiences may also remember her work with The Green Room in Sister Act and with Foothills Performing Arts in Annie and Godspell. When she isn’t performing, Jazmin enjoys singing, swimming, and playing piano. She also jokes that she’s “the actor most likely to bring snacks” to rehearsal.

Audiences can look forward to experiencing Jazmin’s warmth, humor, and powerhouse presence in this beloved musical that celebrates acceptance, joy, and the power of community.
