New In Theaters And On Disc

NOW IN THEATERS:

Two remakes of 1980s cinematic staples have recently made their way to theaters. The Roses is a reworking of The War of the Roses (1989) starring Benedict Cumberbatch and Olivia Colman, while Peter Dinklage takes over the title role in the remake of the 1984 cult film, The Toxic Avenger.

NEW TO DISC:

Kino:

The Two Jakes (1990) The Jack Nicholson directed sequel to Chinatown makes the 4K UHD leap this week. Bonus materials include a new commentary and interviews.

The Lords of Discipline (1983) David Keith stars in this adaptation of the Pat Conroy novel making its 4k debut. The film concerns a secret group with questionable motives who are out to recruit a new student at a military school. A new commentary is included.

Frankenstein’s Bloody Terror (1968) is a long neglected Mexican horror entry written by and starring Paul Naschy, filmed in 70 mm 3-D, and now presented for the first time on disc in its intended format. A new commentary and featurettes are included.

Undisputed (2002) The crime thriller from Walter Hill, which stars Ving Rhames, Wesley Snipes and Peter Falk, makes its 4K debut as well. New commentaries/interviews are included alongside archival material.

The 1931 version of Huckleberry Finn also comes to Blu-Ray from the label this week and includes a new commentary.

Smoke/Blue in the Face (1995) Two films directed by Wayne Wang and penned by novelist, Paul Auster, regarding the comings and goings at a NYC smoke shop, debut on Blu-Ray in a double feature with new commentaries. Both films are sold separately as well.

Arrow:

Lost in Space (1998) The big screen adaptation of the fondly remembered 60s TV series comes to 4K as well this week in a new edition that includes archival commentaries and new interviews along with a collectable booklet.

Warner Archive:

The label is issuing several collections of Blu-Rays previously issued separately and now bundled together. These include an Errol Flynn Collection which contains The Adventures of Robin Hood / The Sea Hawk / Adventures of Don Juan / Santa Fe Trail / Edge of Darkness / Objective, Burma, A Greta Garbo Collection which includes Anna Christie / Camille / Ninotchka / Queen Christina and a 50s Sci-Fi Collection which includes Attack of the 50 Ft. Woman / The Beast from 20,000 Fathoms / Them! / World Without End.

Shout/Scream Factory:

Salvador (1985) Oliver Stone’s first triumph as a director and starring James Woods, comes to the 4K format this week in a new edition that includes both new and archival bonus materials.
