Hickory – The Hickory Crawdads, in conjunction with the Wright Family and Habitat for Humanity of Catawba Valley, will host Rudy Wright Night on Thursday, July 6th to honor the memory of Mayor Wright on what would have been his 70th birthday.
The special event will take place during the game against the Kannapolis Intimidators at 7pm with gates opening at 6pm.
The Wright family will be in attendance to reminisce with friends and tell their favorite Rudy stories. Ulysses Long will sing the National Anthem.
During the game, an official announcement will be made about “The Rudy Project,” a special partnership between the Wright Family and Habitat for Humanity of Catawba Valley. There will also be educational information available concerning mental illness, depression and suicide.
“We are honored to host a celebration of life to remember a true champion for the city of Hickory, a great family man and a Crawdads fan from the first pitch in 1993,” said Crawdads General Manager Mark Seaman.”This is an opportunity to take an unfortunate situation and provide something positive.”
To kick off the fundraising efforts for The Rudy Project, special ticket vouchers will be made available at multiple locations throughout Hickory.
They are redeemable at the Crawdads Climate Control Systems Ticket Office for a discounted $6 ticket ($3 off regular price) to the July 6th game.
For every voucher redeemed, the Crawdads will donate $4 toward The Rudy Project. Vouchers may be picked up at Habitat for Humanity of Catawba Valley, Hickory Metro Convention Center, City Hall, A Sign Co, Catawba County Chamber of Commerce, and the Hickory McDonald’s.
