Newton, NC – Get ready for a world of “pure imagination,” and make plans to audition for Roald Dahl’s Willy Wonka on Monday & Tuesday, September 20 & 21, 2021 beginning at 6:30 pm. Featuring songs from the classic 1971 film and new songs by Anthony Newley and Leslie Bricusse, this timeless musical will satisfy the most discerning sweet tooth! Follow the adventures of the 5 winners of the coveted Golden Tickets as they tour Willy Wonka’s mysterious and marvelous candy factory.

Roles are available for “anyone with an imagination” between the ages of 10 and 100. We are looking for adults with a strong stage presence and willingness to play. It’s a show that the whole family can audition for. All ethnicities and types are strongly encouraged to audition. The best performer for the role will get the part regardless of age, ethnicity, ability, and gender.

Low-pressure auditions will be held on September 20 & 21, 2021 at 6:30 pm. Please only plan to attend one night of auditions. Come ready to play, sing, use your imagination, and have fun. Auditionees should wear comfortable clothes they can move well in. Please prepare a song that shows their skills and range in the same genre as the show. Those auditioning for the role of Willy Wonka should be ready to sing from “Pure Imagination” while those auditioning for the role of Charlie Bucket will sing from “I’ve Got A Golden Ticket!” All auditionees may be asked to sing a selection from “Candy Man.” You will need to bring your own sheet music for selections outside of the show. Roald Dahl’s Willy Wonka is produced by McCreary Modern and is directed by Caleb Sigmon. You must be available for tech week (the week before the show opens) and all performances. Show dates are November 19, 20, 21, 26, 27, 28 & December 3, 4, & 5, 2021. There will also be Producer’s Nights on November 18 & 30 and School Shows on November 23, and December 1 & 3. Please bring your list of rehearsal conflicts with you.

All auditions will be held at the Old Post Office Playhouse located at 10 South Main Avenue, Newton, NC 28658. Please enter at the lower level door at the back of the building (on South Ashe Avenue).
